Reassessing Your Journey: Why Applause May Be Anchoring Your Growth

Let’s Get One Thing Straight...

Starting is not finishing. Effort isn’t execution. And progress? It ain’t purpose.

In today’s culture, we’ve confused taking the first step with reaching the finish line. We post it, we praise it, we pop a bottle over it but the truth is, too many of us are stuck in celebration mode while our potential is sitting in the backseat.

You Did a Thing Now What?

You finally hit the gym. You opened that journal. You launched the brand, signed up for therapy, cleaned your space... good. I’m proud of you. But don’t build a throne on a stepping stone.

The steps in your journey are just that steps. Not homes. Not monuments. Not excuses to pause for three months and post motivational quotes while doing no internal work.

Progress Isn’t Purpose

You’re not lazy you’re over validated. That little dopamine hit from “doing something good” tricked you into thinking you arrived. But here’s the reality check:

“If your progress keeps you from moving forward, then it’s just dressed-up procrastination.”

You didn’t finish You just started.

What We’re Teaching in This Episode

In our latest episode of the Mind Your Mental Podcast, co-host Anthony Manzanet and I dive deep into the mindset behind premature celebration and how it kills momentum, mental discipline, and long-term purpose.

Here’s what we break down:

  • Why discipline always beats dopamine

  • The celebration trap that ruins real growth

  • The lie of arrival and how it weakens your hunger

  • How to balance being proud of your progress without becoming stagnant

  • Tough-love questions to shake your comfort zone and make you accountable

Are You Addicted to Applause?

This is the question I ask my coaching clients all the time. Because if the only thing keeping you going is the validation of being seen…You’ll never finish what wasn’t meant to impress—but to transform you.

Ask Yourself:

  • What are you clapping for that still isn’t done?

  • Are you celebrating checkpoints or avoiding commitment?

  • If nobody cheered, would you still keep going?
